Stetson Family Collection. Celebration of the U.S. Sesquicentennial, featuring a 30,000 page 'birthday card' from the Polish people. Ignacy Moscicki, President of the Polish Republic, looks on as Leopold Kotnowski presents the 111 volumes (at center), containing 5.5 million signatures from Polish citizens expressing their affection for the United States. Pictured, John B. Stetson, Jr. (second from left, blurred), Ignacy Balinksi (third from left), Leopold Kotnowski, and President Ignacy Moscicki (seated at right). John B. Stetson, Jr. served as U.S. Minister to Poland from 1925 to 1929. Written on back of photo, 'The 4th of July - Kotnowski reading his speech. The President in the centre (to right of picture). The entire Cabinet except Piloudski, the Cardinal, all the diplomatic corps and many other prominent distinguished people present. The books on table and at sides contain the five million signatures bound in about 110 volumes which will be sent to our President. As I was bored listening to the Polish speech I let my gaze wander to the ceiling. So I am unrecognizable'.
