TET LAWYER MARCH 1988 College of Law Announces Challenge Gift from the §t Petersburg (Eimtz On January 26, 1988. the St. Petersburg Times presented a $125,000 challenge gift to the College of Law. President of the University, Doug Lee, describes the challenge "as one of the most exciting and significant events in the history of Stetson College of Law." Mr. Eugene Patterson, Chairman of the Board of the St. Petersburg Times presented the gift to President Lee and Dean Jacob. The gift which is to be paid in equal amounts of $25,000 over the next five years, is conditioned upon Stetson College of Law alumni in the Tampa Bay area contributing $25,000 or more per year to the alumni fund. Eugene Patterson commented that the St. Petersburg Times viewed the College of Law as "a vital part of the St Petersburg community and an invaluable resource to the entire Tampa Bay area." The challenge gift as noted by Dean Jacob, is particularly important because it is directed towards our annual fund which is earmarked for the academic program and faculty support. To further signify the importance of this challenge, Paul May '80, President of the Stetson Lawyers Association, declared that "the 1988 annual phonathon will be dedicated to meeting this challenge!" The phonathon, sponsored by the Stetson Lawyers Association, will be held during the week of March 7-10. Students organizations, faculty and VOL. 27 NO. 3 staff have already volunteered their time to help make telephone calls to alumni in the Tampa Bay area. The past phonathons have been quite successful and this year we expect to surpass our previous goals. Phonathon chairman, Marty E. Rice '74, says, "we hope that we can count on the support of all our alumni to meet this challenge." The St. Petersburg Times' gift has already provided additional support in the form of another annual fund challenge gift from Florida Power Corporation.
