"C/V/7 Practice Before Trial" Theme
Of Florida Bar Seminar, December 7-8
The Florida Bar Committee on Continuing Education will present a seminar,
Civil Practice Before Trial, at the College of Law, Friday and Saturday, December
7 and 8. This is the first in a series of institutes on the same subject that will be
presented throughout the state. A handbook covering the topic, prepared by
some of Florida's leading lawyers, will be distributed to all registrants.
Richard Earle, Chairman of the Committee, in urging every lawyer to attend
this initial meeting, emphasizes that it is not designed for experts alone.
Program All-inclusive
"While there will be much of interest to the expert," Earle stated, "this
institute is also for the 70% of the
Florida lawyers who go to court only
on an average of once a year. Even
those lawyers who engage associate
counsel to try their cases must still
know how to talk understandably to
their clients about the litigation. The
lectures and the handbook will enable
them to perform even this function
more effectively."
The meeting at Stetson launches a
new approach to continuing legal
education. The Committee feels that
it can best effect its purpose by concentrating on one subject, complemented by a comprehensive handbook
bound for permanent reference, and
presenting that subject state-wide,
rather than offering several seminars
a year on several different subjects.
A luncheon will be provided Friday
noon by The College of Law for all
members of the Bar who attend the
Institute. In addition, the Stetson Lawyers Association cordially invites these
members to remain at the conclusion
of the seminar Saturday for the Association's Law Day 1962 luncheon honoring the Supreme Court Justices of
Florida.
Mr. Earle has announced that he
will make and confirm hotel or motel
reservations for all who request them.

Stetson Lawyers Will Honor Supreme Court
Judges At Law Day Luncheon, December 8
December 8 is Stetson Law Day, 1962
With the added attraction of a Florida Bar institute running concurrently with
Law Day activities, the College is preparing for the largest group of alumni ever
to return to the St. Petersburg campus for this traditional event.
President Edmunds and Dean Sebring have issued the following joint statement:
"The welcome mat is out. To our
many alumni we express the warm
wish that you will regard your return in the nature of a homecoming.
To other members of the Bench and
Bar we say sincerely that we are
proud to have you as our guests
and to be able to offer you our
services and facilities in the furtherance of continuing legal education."
Burns Will Eulogize
Featuring the law day program will
be a luncheon sponsored by the
Stetson Lawyers Association in honor
of the Supreme Court Justices of
Florida, past and present. Besides
those now on the Bench, the only
other living justices, Alto Adams of
Fort Pierce, Paul D. Barns of Miami,
Frank Hobson, '24, of St. Petersburg,
and Harold L. Sebring, Stetson Dean,
are expected to be present to receive
their tribute. This may well be the
first time that all past and present
members of a Florida Court have been
together on one platform.
C. Robert Burns, '34, of West Palm
Beach will deliver the eulogy to the
justices, who will be presented with
the College of Law's most significant
houor, The Distinguished Citizen
Award.
All members of the Florida Bar are
cordially invited to attend the luncheon honoring the Court.
"Holiday" Week-End
J. Ben Watkins, '49, President of
the Stetson Lawyers Association, has
announced that official headquarters
for the Association will be the Holiday
Inn, 4601 - 34th Street, South (Sunshine Skyway). In order not to interfere with the Florida Bar institute
schedule, no events other than the
luncheon honoring the Supreme Court
justices have been formally planned.
However, alumni returning to take advantage of both the institute and the
luncheon are urged to bring their
