Photograph narrative: 15 April 1947 Siever's witness, Dr. Erwin Topf, assistant editor of Der Zeit, Hamburg, who gave up his position as Editor of the Berliner Tageblatt when Hitler came to power because of the fact that the paper could not remain independent. Dr. Topf testifies as to the resistance movement led by Dr. Friedrich Hielacher, of which he was a member. Said Topf, I never considered our movement to assassinate Hitler and Himmler as a conspiracy against the govermment. I felt it only as a movement in which all opposed to Nazism should make personal sacrifices to oppose the regime so that when it fell our policies would prevail.
