Description
January 8, 1843 (3 pages). Letter from Congressman Cave Johnson, presumably to Reynolds. Johnson describes candidly his view of current politicians. The Locofocos mentioned were a faction of the Democratic Party. Johnson also describes the debate about refunding General Andrew Jackson's fine which had been levied on him as a result of actions at New Orleans in 1815. Huck and Dick are Johnson's two young sons. Johnson tells of witnessing a demonstration in the Capitol of the telegraph and expresses amazement at such inventions. The ink on this letter is somewhat faded.
