Description
Holy Bible with 'Stetson' engraved on the front. Brown leather cover with gold gilt detail. Metal clasp on side. Bookplate 'Presented by John B. Stetson to S. Elizabeth Stetson.' Elizabeth was Mr. Stetson's third wife who he married in 1884. Handwritten inscription 'Christmas Morning 1868. From Minnie and Florie. To Our Dear Pa.' Minnie was Wilhelmina Stetson, daughter of Mr. Stetson and his first wife Nancy Haines. Florie is the daughter of Mr. Stetson's second wife, Harriet Harkness DePuy. Both girls lived with Mr. Stetson and they would have been 17 (Minnie) and 14 (Florie) at the time of the gift. John B. Stetson apparently presented this Bible to his wife Elizabeth at least 16 years after it was first given to him by his daughter and step-daughter. Hinge is loose. The Holy Bible, Containing the Old and New Testaments, Together with the Apocrypha...Published by William Flint, Philadelphia. The Bible includes a number of beautiful engraved images. Ribbon / bookmark found inside.
