Description
Six-point starburst brown medal with medallion in the center featuring a lion holding a sword with a sun behind it. This design was first used in 1808 in Iran on medals awarded to both military and civilians, native and foreign. Hanging from a green and red ribbon. In original green box with the lion, sword, and sun symbols, as well as a crown, on the cover of the box. The Stetson family knew the Shah of Iran, and this was awarded to John B. Stetson, Jr. possibly during his time there in World War II. Serving at the rank of colonel in the army, Stetson, Jr. was sent to Iran in 1943 as fiscal advisor to the commanding general, and later was appointed director of the fiscal department of the Persian Gulf Demand.
