THREE CCSOI1 IOSS OF THE ECONOMIC WE
LUECH GIVKN IK THE HONOE OF THE MINISTER OF TEE UNITED STATES
On Saturday in the building of the Tradesmen Club the Polish American Chmamfeer
of Commerce entertained at lunch Mr.John B.Stetson, recently appointed United States
Minister to Poland.
In addition to the member of the Chamber of Commerce 79 persons attended the
lunch.
Mr.Kotnowski,Chairman of the Chamber, stated that in spite of the present
fluctuations of the Zloty one should not get desperate. Even such strong countries
as the United States are passing through dangerous crisis, for instance the currency
trouble of 1894 and 1907. While tailing concerning the trade relations between the
United States and Poland, Mr.Kotnowski declared that they would increase if they
were direct without any German or British mediators. Mr.Xotnowski finished his
speech by cheers for Presi :ant Coolidge and Minister Stetson.
Mr.Stetson stated in his answer that closer relations are possible only after
better knowledge of each other. The Minister himself is studying Poland which country
is so often represented as a factor of trouble on the Continent. Mr.Stetson came to
the conclusion that Poland, is inspired by most peaceful tendencies and is busily
engaged in fhe restoration of its economic and business life. In order to succeed
three things are necessary . The welfare of individuals and of nations is based on
work, honesty and savings. Honesty not only in relations between people but also
in working with efficieny and in dme correspondence to the remuneration. Savings
should no'c be based on the consideration as to what can be afforded, but on what
is not /necessary.
Expecting- to see P land getting out of the present trouble,Mr.Stetson emnied his
glass for the prosperity of P land reborn«
