Budget The Committee of the Senate which started debates on the
budget - accepted the budget passed without the Diet without any change
The attitude of the Senate's Committee to the budget was a surprise
for everybody as it has been generally understood that the Government
was not pleased with the form of the budget approved by the Diet and
expected the Senate to restitute the original Governmental budget.
There is a number of rumours concerning this decision. It has been
established that Col.Slawek and Senator Roman had a conference with
Marshal Pilsudski on the subject last Saturday and that the decision
of the Sen-.te has been taken on the desire of the Marshal. The
Govermmental press states that the Government decided to make the
Senate approve the budget as it was as in case of amendments the
budget would have to return to the Diet which would take a lot of time
while air ady on the first of April expires the provisional budget.
In case the amendments of the Senate would have been rejected by
§ majority lower than 11/20 of the entire Diet - the bill, would
have been nor accepted neither rejected . The Government fearing
•this possibility preferred to maintain It as it is. The Government
press expects^ that the Government will find possible to carry
on a sound economic policy even with a bod budget.
Foreign policies The German and Soviet press are both very displease!
with Poland. The Soviets are very nervous in connection with the
recent visit of Mr.Lindsay and find a connection between this visit
and that of the Rukanian g neeals - calling it an anti-Soviet front
prepared by British politicians.
The German pr ss is very nervous concerning the
recent conferences between Mr, Ala ski and B riand in Paris stating
that Zaleski had no right to int rfer with, the matter of the evacuation
of Rhine provinces, and accuse him of starting intrigues to prevent
