President's Report to -^oard of Trustees

Gentlemen of the Roard of Trustees of John B. Stetson University.
Since my last annual report to you nothing has occurred to
interrupt the growth and prosperity of the University. During the
school year ending May Sth, 1889, there were registered 3$ pupils
and that, too .notwi ths tanning the late opening, (Dec. 1|) the widespread fear of Tellow Fever, keeping away Northern students and
the fact that the Grammar School Dep't was discontinued. Of these
students two were students for the Ministry and two were taking the
professional course for teachers. The Institution furnished tuition
to students to the amount of $182, and other direct help to the
amount of $135, curing the school year, making a total of $317.
And it also assisted five students by giving them work, thus enabling them to partly pay their waj. Thirty one of the eighty-
five students were boarders in Stetson Hall and nine more were
boarding in private houses. These l|_0 students represented eleven
states and nine counties of the state. The graduating class consisted of five students-two young men and three young women-three
graduating in the classical course, one in the Higher English and
one in the Commercial. One student also received a state certificate for having completed the work of the Normal course. Up to
the present time in this school year, we have registered 101| pupils
97 of whom are now in actual attendance. There are 65 young women
and 39 young men. There are 35 in Stetson Hall, 17 young women
and 18 young men. There have been in all 1|1, 16 students are from
out of town boarding in other places than the hall. Students from
out of town represent 7 states and 16 counties of this state. Of
our students 71 are professed Christian, 18 having been converted
during this school year. The various denominations are represented
as follows 1;5 Baptist 25 Presbyterian, 10 Episcopalian 17 Methodist,
