Dear Sir:-
Believing that you desire to give the young people in your
charge a patriotic as well as a practical education, we take the
liberty of offering you the following suggestion:
You may have in mind some public spirited person or persons
who seem inclined to favor your department in some substantial
way but is at a loss to know how to do so in a befitting manner.
No doubt were their attention called to the idea of presenting a colossal bust of Washington at a reasonable expense,
they might do so without hesitation. The cost of the complete
figure, on board cars in New York, for presentation purposes is
*25.00
In donating this artistic ornament they would not only do
themselves an honor by having a lasting souvenir of their generosity exhibited for many years, but stimulate and educate the
young people in lessons of patriotism for generations to come.
The bust is modeled by the American sculptor Wilson MacDon-
ald from Houdon's celebrated life mask of Washington. It is made
of gypsite, a composition as hard, as handsome and as durable
as marble and when placed on a wall measures six feet from the
base of the bracket to the top of the head.
Should you mention to us in a confidential way any persons
that you may have in mind who would be inclined to favor your
department in the manner suggested, we would be pleased to communicate with them direct on the subject
Were you to propose any other method whereby your school
could be made the recipient of such a gift, we would be glad to
hear from you and do our part towards carrying out such an idea
to a successful issue.
