APPLICATIONS FOR HAND GRANTS. Faculty members are encouraged to apply for 2010 Hand Grants. Applications for
Professional Development Projects and Hand Grants for Course Enhancement are due to Department Chairs on January
19, 2010. The application can be found in the "Faculty Professional Development Opportunities" handbook which is
available online at http://www.stetson.edu/academicaffairs/profdevel.php or in hard copy from the Office of Academic
Affairs. Funds have been approved for a total of two grants of $1,500 each.

PROVOST APPOINTS PROMOTION AND TENURE TASK FORCE. In response to recommendations from the 2009
Promotion and Tenure task force chaired by Diane Everett, Provost Paul has appointed and charged Kimberly Flint-
Hamilton (Chair), Paul Dascher, Jamil Khader, Brigid Noonan, Michael Rickman, Susan Ryan, and Alicia Schultheis with
revising existing tenure and promotion policies into a unified University policy. According to Provost Paul, "The policy
revision will include initiation of the development of disciplinary standards for scholarship and teaching excellence.
Included in the tenure and promotion policy will be uniform expectations for the role of the tenure and promotion policy in
new faculty orientation and mentoring, and expectations for candidate feedback." The task force will consult with Faculty
Senate and also seek broad faculty input on a policy draft that is due April 12, 2010.

RUSSIAN STUDIES LECTURE SERIES features Professor Thomas Lahusen, Professor of Russian History at the
University of Toronto, who will be speaking on "Russian Cities in Film" on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at the Lynn Business
Center, Room 122 from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Cultural credit is provided.
