The Symphonic Wind Ensemble
conducted by Bobby Adams--EHA
Live in Elizabeth Hall, February 2, 7:30 p.m.-Ashley Cooley, bassoon, and Anne McLean, piano, will perform works
by Kozeluh, Villa Lobos, Jacobs, and Weber tonight in Elizabeth Hall. In addition to teaching bassoon, Ashley runs
the annual Double-reed Workshop with oboist Ann Adams.
Live in Elizabeth Hall. February 3, 7:30 p.m.--The Symphonic Wind Ensemble conducted by Bobby Adams, will
present its first concert of the semester as part of the Sixth Annual Band Literature Clinic. The Deltona High
School Wind Ensemble will open the concert with a 20-minute program. The Stetson University Wind Ensemble
will follow with the program they performed at the 1996 College Band Directors' National Association Southern
Division Conference in Biloxi, Mississippi, on January 25. James Bishop, Stetson's instructor of saxophone, will
perform the second movement of the Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Concert Band by Karel Husa. Joseph
Kreines, featured clinician for this year's Band Literature Clinic, will conduct his transcription of excerpts from Die
Meistersinaer von Nurnbera. by Richard Wagner. From: Jan Kindred
Dr. Marilyn Ross, Grants Consultant to the Provost, will be on campus Monday. February 19, and the morning of
Tuesday, February 20. If you wish to make an appointment to see her please call me at ext. 7010. She will also
be on campus March 18-20 in case you are not available to see her during her February visit.

SHORT TERM FREIBURG EXCHANGES. As most faculty know, in addition to the traditional one semester or one
year faculty exchange between Stetson and Paedagogische Hochschule (PH) in Freiburg, there are one month
exchanges. The Stetson faculty member goes to Freiburg for the month of January or June, and the PH faculty
member comes here in March or September. Stetson pays for the round trip transportation (Orlando-Freiburg) and
an apartment in Freiburg is provided at the PH. The faculty member takes care of all additional expenses. Anyone

Competition for the Sam R. Marks Prize in Religion is open to students who have completed at least three hours
in Religious Studies. Two awards will be given for the best paper in biblical research. FIRST PLACE PRIZE WILL
BE $500! Application forms are available in the Religious Studies Department Office, 202 Allen Hall. Please
encourage students who may qualify to enter the competition. The Sam R. Marks contact is Phillip Lucas, ext.

Spring Semester Film Series. The schedule of films to be shown as part of the Women and Gender Studies film
series, "Women Behind the Camera" is included elsewhere in this Newsletter. Please save for your own reference
