UNIVERSITY FACULTY MEETING
On March 11 and 12 the Russian Studies Program will host Aleksei Malakhovski, Professor of Journalism at the
People's Friendship University in Moscow and current scholar in residence at the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill. Professor Malakhovski will give presentations in classes on Modern Islamic Civilization, Russia Today,
and Applied Journalism. There will be a reception for Professor Malakhovski on Monday, March 11, at 4:30 p.m.,
in the Russian Studies Center. All are invited to meet Professor Malakhovski and learn more about contemporary

Live in Elizabeth Hall, March 12, 7:30 p.m.-On Tuesday evening. Stetson organist Susan Klotzbach will perform
works of 17th-century composer Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, 18th-century composer JS Bach, 19th century
composer Cesar Franck, and a trio of 20th-century composers, Leo Sowerby, Ned Rorem, and Louis Vierne. The
Bach is the Prelude and Fuoure in E Minor. The well-known fugue is called the "Wedge" because the fugue subject
(the melody on which the entire fugue is based) is wedge-shaped, moving outward, up and down, from a single
pitch to an octave. This will be Dr. Klotzbach's first faculty recital at Stetson since joining us in the fall.

WGS Film Series. The next film in the WGS series, Lizzie Borden's Working Girls, will be shown at 7:00 p.m. on
Thursday, March 14, in Library 5L. This feature film about prostitution follows one day in the life of a "working
girl" and resists situating women's bodies as the objects of the spectator's gaze; the sex is more humorous and
businesslike than erotic.
In recognition of Women's Issues Week (3/11-3/15), the WGS Program is sponsoring a lunchtime discussion of
women's friendships on Friday, March 15, from 12-1 in Flagler 313. Interested students, faculty, and staff are

There will be a faculty meeting for the College of Arts and Sciences on Friday, March 22, at 3:30 p.m., in room
5L. We will continue our discussion of the administrative process to implement the Cultural Events requirement
of the General Education program. Since this process requires some responsibilities on the part of faculty, it is
important to have as many faculty available as possible to agree on the procedures to be employed.
