ANNOUNCEMENTS
The University Faculty will meet TODAY, Friday, January 24, at noon in the Stetson Room. A light lunch will be
served beginning at 11:45 am. Items for discussion include reports by Dr. Lee on the Trustees Executive
Committee (including Faculty Senate's proposed Investment & Finance Committee) and Mission Marketing and
"Stetson Stories" Project; a report by Dr. Leonard Nance and Dr. Nylen on consultant Nita Nethersole's critical
evaluation of diversity on the Stetson campus (please see http://www.stetson.edu/diversity/reports.shtml: and a
report by the Academic Deans on the proposed "General Studies Program" (modeled in part on Rollins College,
Hamilton Holt School).

SAM R. MARKS PRIZE IN RELIGION, sponsored by the Department of Religious Studies, awards cash prizes for the
best research papers in biblical studies. The competition for the Sam R. Marks Prize in Religion is open to students
who have completed at least three hours in Religious Studies. Awards of $500.00 and $250.00 will be made for
First and Second place. Application forms are available in 202 Allen Hall, the Religious Studies Office. The
application should be returned by February 14, 2003, and the submitted paper by March 21, 2003. Please
encourage students to enter the competition.

Attention Faculty: 2003 Udall Scholarships will be available for qualified students. These one-year $5,000
scholarships support "scholarship and excellence in national environmental policy" and will be awarded to 80
students nationally. Eligibility: either (1) sophomores or juniors from a broad range of disciplines who study the
environment or related fields; or (2) students who are Native Americans or Alaska Natives studying fields related
to health care or tribal public policy. Students from a variety of departments are encouraged to apply. Students
must be nominated by Stetson. For nomination materials and information, contact Bruce Bradford, Udall faculty
