The University Faculty will meet on Friday, March 17, in Rinker Auditorium, Davis Hatl, at noon. The agenda is
a discussion of the University Faculty and Faculty Senate Bylaws. Lunch will be provided beginning at 11:45 a.m.

The Phi Alpha Theta lecture for the Spring will be delivered by Dr. Bradley Cross, assistant professor at St. Thomas
University, New Brunswick, Canada, on March 13, 7:30 p.m., in the Library large-group presentation room. Dr.
Cross is a specialist in modern urban history, especially the role of Utopian communities and the "new urbanism."
He has written and lectured extensively on the urban environment in American and Canadian planned communities
as well as the role of suburbia and slums. His talk at Stetson is entitled "Useful Utopias: Celebration, Florida, and
the Historical Conceptions of Planning and Community." Admission is open to the entire university and community.

MODEL SENATE AND U.S. SENATOR MAX CLELAND. The 30th anniversary of the Stetson University Model
United States Senate will be held next week beginning Thursday, March 16 at 2:30 p.m. and continuing all day
Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th in the Carlton Union Building. This three-day event allows students to give
political speeches and negotiate bills through committees competing for Outstanding Senator awards. This year
we are expecting a record attendance of 98 registered Senators representing several schools from around the
country including, Bridgewater College, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, University of Florida, Georgia
Southern University, Goucher University, Jacksonville University and Lake Sumter Community College. Students
will be guided through the procedures of the Senate by the current U.S. Parliamentarian Dr. Robert Dove and
United States Senator Max Cleland. All events are in the CUB, and you are welcome to come by and observe this
educational experience.
United States Senator Max Cleland will give a public speech on Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. in the Rinker Field
House. Senator Cleland is a Stetson graduate, and former cabinet official, a Vietnam War hero, as well as a
Democratic U.S. Senator. He is also an entertaining and inspirational speaker. Please join us. This event is free
and open to the public and also counts as a cultural event in meeting with the College of Arts and Sciences

Stetson's Thurman Lecturer to address 'Architecture of Cultural Humanism.' Award-winning architect and
entrepreneur Robert Madison will present the university's next Howard Thurman Lecture at 7:00 p.m., March 16
in the Stetson Room.
The free lecture, titled "The Architecture of Humanism in America," will examine Mr. Madison's political bravery
and march to success as one of the country's leading architects. Despite the obstacles he faced in his early career
in a field with few African Americans and in a segregated society, Madison established his 45-year-old firm, Robert
P. Madison International. The firm today figures prominently in much of his native Cleveland's cityscape where
he has been associated in some way to every large project of the 1990s, working with, and within, his city.
Join us as Robert Madison discusses the social responsibility of building and the architect's responsibility to uplift
