ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE: The Office of the Chaplain and the Catholic Campus Ministry invite members of the
campus community to the University's Ash Wednesday service on Wednesday, March 8, at 4:00 p.m. in Night
Lites. Chaplain Laura Walters Baskett and Father Chris Hoffman will be co-officiating. The service will include the
imposition of ashes. For more information, please contact Chaplain Baskett, ext. 7523.

On Wednesday, March 8, Stetson University's Phi Beta Kappa Honorary Society will present a lecture by Emory
University's Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Politics and History, Dr. Harvey Klehr, entitled "Revisiting McCarthy:
New Revelations on Soviet Espionage in America." Dr. Klehr will speak about recently uncovered archives in the
former Soviet Union's infamous KGB indicating that Soviet spying operations in the United States were much more
extensive than hitherto imagined. In Dr. Klehr's words, "Joe McCarthy actually had it right, but for all the wrong
reasons." The University community and the general public are invited to hear Dr. Klehr's talk, free of charge,
Wednesday, March 8, in the Media Center of the duPont-Ball Library, Room 25 of the Instructional Media Center,
at 7:00 p.m. Please inform students. Cultural credit approved.

The Women and Gender Studies program will sponsor a BOOKFEAST on Tuesday, March 14, at 4:00 p.m., in the
Private Dining Room featuring an anthology of essays on third-wave feminism edited by Rebecca Walker. Her book
is entitled To Be Real: Telling the truth and Changing the Face of Feminism. Ms. Walker will be on campus the
following Monday, March 20, for a public lecture at 7:00 p.m. Participation in the bookfeast is limited to 40
participants; a dinner will follow our break-out discussions, led by students in Dr. Karen Cole's WGS 100 class.
Please come by my office (123 Sampson) to make your reservation and pick up your free copy of the book any
afternoon between 2:30 and 5:00 p.m. (Please do not sign up if you are not committed to participating). The

REMINDER--A memorial service for Dr. Gene Medlin, Professor of Mathematics/Computer Science, Emeritus, will
be held at the First Baptist Church in DeLand on Sunday, February 27 at 3:30 p.m. Dr. Medlin came to Stetson
in 1958 to teach mathematics and computer science and to serve as chair of the department, a position he held
for 25 years. He retired in 1991. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial donations be made to
the First Baptist Church of DeLand Building Fund or to the West Volusia Historical Society.
