ANNOUNCEMENTS
MODEL SENATE AND U.S. SENATOR MAX CLELAND. The 29th Stetson, U.S. Model Senate continues all day
Friday and all day Saturday. All events are in the Carlton Union Building, and you are welcome to come by and
observe this educational experience. It is rewarding to see students give political speeches and negotiate bills
through committees. Tonight (Friday the 12th) at 8:00 p.m., in the Rinker Field House/Hollis Center's basketball
court, U.S. Senator Max Cleland, will give a public speech. Senator Cleland is a Stetson graduate, a former cabinet
official, a Vietnam War hero, as well as a Democratic U.S. Senator. He is also an entertaining and inspirational
speaker. Please join us. This will count as a cultural event in meeting the College of Arts and Sciences

Brian Williams, B.A., Stetson, and Ph.D. candidate in the Department of History at the University of Wisconsin,
Madison, will present "Crimean Tartars and Their Struggle for Nationhood" on Monday, March 15, at 4:00 p.m.
in the Russian Studies Center. A reception will follow.

"Gender, Citizenship and Jury Service in Twentieth Century America" will be the topic of Phi Beta Kappa Visiting
Scholar Linda Kerber this coming Monday, March 15, at 7:00 p.m. in Room 315 of Elizabeth Hall. Dr. Kerber is
Brodbeck Professor in the Liberal Arts at the University of Iowa. She will be on campus next week for class
meetings and her public lecture. Please alert your students to this opportunity for a stimulating discussion of
impartiality, legal precedent, race, and gender. Cultural events credit will be given. From: Terry Grieb
The Women and Gender Studies program will continue its Roundtable series on Tuesday, March 16, at 4:00 p.m.
Historian Linda Kerber, Phi Beta Kappa lecturer from the University of Iowa, will present her research on "Precarious
Citizenship: Married Women's Relation to the State." The roundtable will take place in 308 Elizabeth Hall, and
students will receive cultural events credit. Light refreshments will be served.

WELLNESS FAIR: HEALTHY STETSON 2000 is Thursday, March 25, 1999, in the Hollis Center, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00
p.m. FREE LUNCH for faculty and staff, provided by Stetson University, in an effort to encourage the wellness
initiative across the university community. Lunch will be in the Rinker Field House from 11:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m.

Live in Elizabeth Hall, Saturday, March 13, 7:30 p.m.-The Stetson chapter of the CMENC (Collegiate Music
Educators' National Conference) will present their annual and very popular Broadway Revue. The evening, complete
with orchestra, sets, lighting, and body mikes, is entirely student rehearsed and student performed. The revue will
include songs from many Broadway musicals, including Chorus Line, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor
Dreamcoat, Once Upon a Mattress, Ragtime, Sunset Boulevard, Guys and Dolls, Carousel, and others. Some of
the important people involved: Susan Doraz, director; Matt Bumbach, assistant director; Franklin Jennings,
orchestra conductor; and Kevin Keyser, choreographer. It's a money-maker for the CMENC, so bring your wallets
(a bargain at $5 for everyone).
