PUBLIC LECTURE. Dr. Robert E. Wilson "Stellar Explosions," Thursday, April 10, 7:30 p.m., Rinker Auditorium.
Dr. Wilson is a professor of astronomy at the University of Florida. He received his Ph.D. from the University
Pennsylvania in 1963, and has worked at many noteworthy institutions including the Goddard Institute for Space
Studies, the Goddard Space Flight Center, the U.S. Naval Observatory, and the M. Planck Institute for
Astrophysics. He conducts research in stellar astrophysics, with an emphasis on modeling the evolution of binary
stars. His talk will cover the final stages of stellar evolution including the explosive creation of neutron stars and
black holes. Dr. Wilson's visit was made possible by the support of the American Astronomical Society through
the Harlow Shapley Visiting Lectureship Program. From: Department of Physics
