UNIVERSITY FACULTY MEETING-Friday, January 22, noon, Rinker Auditorium. The agenda includes an open
discussion of University academic calendar issues for future years. A light lunch will be provided beginning at

Live in Elizabeth Hall, Friday, January 15, 7:30 p.m—Jean West and Michael Rickman will open Stetson's Spring
concert season with music for flute and piano. Jean will play the legendary Partita in A-minor for solo flute by J.S.
Bach. This work is comparable to the well-known works for violin and cello in the same medium. Each movement
is a stylized Baroque dance. She will be joined by Michael for works by Jean-Michel Damase, Salomon Jadassohn,
and Philippe Gaubert. Jadassohn was a 19th-century theorist, teacher, conductor, and composer who spent much
of his career at the Leipzig Conservatory. Gaubert is a famous French flutist, teacher, and composer from the first
half of this century. The opening sonata by Damase was dedicated to British musicians Geoffrey Gilbert (with
whom Jean studied) and William Pleeth, members of the Wigmore Ensemble for which Damase often wrote.
Geoffrey Gilbert was first first-chair flutist with the London Philharmonic, was renowned internationally as a master
teacher, and from 1969 to 1979 taught flute at Stetson.
Live in Elizabeth Hall, Friday, January 22, 7:30 p.m—French guitarist Judicael Perroy will perform works by Nicolo
Paganini, Agustfn Barrios, Enrique Granados, Isaac Albeniz, and J.S. Bach. Perroy came to international prominence
in 1997 when he won first prize at the 15th Guitar Foundation of America International Competition in LaJolla,
California. He has performed throughout Germany, France, Russia, and Denmark, and during the 1999 season will
tour the United States and Canada performing over 50 concerts. Perroy made his orchestral debut at age 11 and
at the age of 14 won the Second Prize of the International Competition of the lle-de-France. Since receiving a
diploma from the Ecole Normale of Paris, he was first prize winner of the Paris National Conservatory, the Rene
Bartoli International Competition, and the International Guitar Competition of Bourg Madame. He is currently on
the faculty of the National Academy of Blanc-Mesnil near Paris. He will release two compact discs and a video this
year. His DeLand performance and student master class (Friday, 10:00 a.m.) are sponsored in part by the Guitar

WINTER BLOOD DRIVE. The Winter Blood Drive conducted by the American Red Cross will be held on campus
Tuesday and Wednesday, January 19 and 20, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Stetson Room of the Carlton
Union Building. Your support of the Blood Drive is extremely important. Lead the way and show our students your
commitment to helping others. Your friends, neighbors, and family depend upon the Red Cross for blood and blood
products. If you do not donate, the supply of blood may not be adequate. Please donate and encourage your
