ANNOUNCEMENTS
JUNE BROOKS MEMORIAL AWARD FOR ACTIVISM. The WGS Program is working in cooperation with the Brooks
family to establish an annual award that will recognize a Stetson student who best exemplifies the activism of
former Stetson employee June Brooks. June, a longtime employee of Stetson Food Service who retired last
summer, passed away in March at the age of 73. She was active in many civic and social organizations, including
the National Organization of Women, the Democratic party, the West Volusia Society for a Nuclear Freeze, People
to Prevent Nuclear War, Amnesty International, the Florida Coalition for Peace and Justice, and the West Volusia
Democratic Women's Club. Students involved in activities that combat discrimination based on gender, race, or
sexual preference or who are involved in activities that promote peace, social justice, or environmental awareness
will be considered for this award. (Although the WGS Program will administer the award, students need not be
WGS minors to be considered.) Faculty, staff, or students wishing to nominate a student for this award should
send nominations (and brief explanations of why the nominee should be considered) to the WGS Committee, c/o
Karen Kaivola, Box 8300.
Members of the Stetson community who would like to make a contribution to the June Brooks Memorial Award
for Activism should send a check made payable to "Stetson University" to Karen Kaivola. (Please make a note on

Final Reminder: The Ballet Gran Folkldrico de Mexico will perform tomorrow evening (Saturday, March 1 5) at 8:00
p.m. at the Edmunds Center. Tickets are available at the Edmunds Center Ticket Office.

REMINDER--The Faculty Reading Hour will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 7:00 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge of
the CUB. Tentatively, the readers will include Tom Farrell, Susan Wilson, Lori Snook, and Robbie Boerth. The
program will include literary works ranging from the Middle Ages to the present. If anyone else would like to be
added to the program, please contact Lori Snook or Robbie Boerth. All are invited to attend. The reading is an
accepted College of Arts and Sciences Cultural Event.
