The Faculty Senate will meet this Monday, February 2, at 6:45 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge. Dinner will precede

The University Faculty will meet Friday, February 6, at noon in the Rinker Auditorium, Davis Hall. A light lunch
will be available beginning at 11:45 a.m. The major topic is the Stetson University Diversity Plan presented by
Leonard Nance and President Lee. Other updates include: Trustee Meeting Report including budget parameters
for next year, and a report on the Faculty Compensation Committee given by Dean Woodward.

Live in Elizabeth Hall, Friday, January 30, 7:30 p.m.— Mezzo-soprano Jane Christeson, pianist Michael Rickman,
and violist Alvaro Gomez will perform Two Songs for Alto, Viola, and Piano. Brahms' only example of true vocal
chamber music. The first of the two songs was written to be performed by the famous violinist and his estranged
wife, contralto Amalie —Brahms' attempt to reunite the two; however they never performed the work together.
Jane and Michael will also perform song cycles by Faure, Mahler, and Barber, and a Handel aria from the oratorio
Semele. Jane will travel to Freiburg in May to study with the well-known artist/teacher Horst Giinter.
Live in Elizabeth Hall, Friday, February 6, 7:30 p.m. —Pianist Edit Palmer will play her first recital at Stetson since
joining us in the Fall. She will perform sonatas by Haydn and Beethoven, a Rondo and Hungarian Peasant Songs
by her fellow Hungarian, Bela Bart6k, and Chopin's Scherzo in B-Flat Minor. Edit also performs with many of our
students and faculty and teaches aural training, a natural for her as she was born and grew up in the country of
Zoltein Kodeily, who gave us the KodSly method of teaching sight-singing, which we all use and know and love.
Live in Elizabeth Hall, Saturday, February 7, 2:30 p.m.—A Showcase Memorial Concert for "Prof" Giffin. An Alumni
Glee Club, conducted by alumnus Bing Vick, Director of Choirs at Furman University, will sing several favorite
works of Prof Giffin, including selections from the Brahms and Mozart Requiems and Handel's Messiah. Soloists
will be several of Prof's former students (Robert Rich, Earnest Murphy, Jack Coldiron, and Priscilla Tunnell) and
the 1997 winner of the Giffin Scholarship, Melissa Patterson. The Concert Choir, conducted by Duncan Couch,
will also perform. There will be a banquet on Friday evening to honor Prof and a reception in Presser Hall following

REMINDER-ROTARY FOUNDATION AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS. Scholarships for the year 1999-2000
for study abroad are available through Dr. G. Robert Fox, 734-8958, or through Dr. David Dysart in the Department
of Foreign Languages or Barbara Brunning in the School of Music. Faculty members should encourage outstanding
students with ambassadorial potential to apply for one of these. The academic year scholarship provides for up
to $22,000, and includes transportation, tuition and fees, and board and room. Recent scholars have been Barbara
Berry and Steve Nicks, who join a long line of Stetson alumni who have studied abroad under Rotary grants.
