ANNOUNCEMENTS
FOCUS ON GUATEMALA: Stetson University is honored to have a Mayan family from Todos Santos, Guatemala
visiting our campus during a two-week period. They are Porfirio Pablo Pablo, his wife, Santiaga Mendoza Pablo
and their youngest daughter Debora. This family were the subject of an award-winning documentary film in the
1980s about a military massacre in their village. They remain leaders of their community, and this will be their first
trip outside of Guatemala. The following events are planned, and we invite your participation.
Monday, March 24, 12:00 noon-Political Forum in CUB 204/205, with Dr. Bob Sitler, Dr. Mario Aldana, Or.
Anne Hallum and Bob and Betty Press (who recently returned from a U.N. assignment in Guatemala).
Wednesday, March 26, 12:00 noon-Forum in CUB 204/205 continues. We will discuss the work of the
Alliance for International Reforestation (A.I.R.) which is based at Stetson and has a tree nursery in Todos
Santos.
Monday, March 31, 7:00 p.m.-Duncan Gallery Lobby; Demonstration of Backstrap weaving and crochet.
Monday, March 31-April 2-Weaving Display in Duncan Gallery Lobby and SALE-front of CUB.
Wednesday, April 2. 7:30 p.m.-Rinker Auditorium-showing of new film by Olivia Carrescia about Guatemalans
in Florida, with the film-maker as our guest from New York.
Thursday, April 3. 7:00 p.m.-Rinker Auditorium (Main Event). Showing of award-winning film by Olivia
Carrescia entitled, Todos Santos: The Survivors, followed by a talk with the subjects of the film, our
visitors from Guatemala. This will be a reunion for them and Olivia.
Events are sponsored by the Artists and Lecturers Committee; Women and Gender Studies; and Latin American
