UNIVERSITY FACULTY MEETING-Monday, January 22, 4:00 p.m.. Rinker Auditorium. Davis Hall. Items on the
agenda include a report by President Lee on the Trustee Executive Board meeting and budget plans for the 1996-97
academic year. Materials have been hand delivered to each department so that each faculty member can review
the material prior to the meeting. Also, the Faculty Senate will recommend a bylaw change on who gets to vote
which reads as follows:
"Those allowed to vote in Faculty Meetings should include the Chancellor, the President, the Chief Academic
Officer, and all who have received tenure, have a tenure-track appointment, or who have a continuing
appointment and faculty rank."
This is a change in the bylaws and will require a two-thirds majority to pass.

"The University Faculty shall be composed of the President, the Provost, the Deans of all Colleges and Schools,
all members of the full-time instructional staff, and others on whom the trustees have conferred faculty status."
A second motion was also passed by the Senate. This will only need a simple majority to pass. This motion reads:
"Because there are just two non-faculty members who have had faculty status designated to them by the
Board of Trustees-AI Wehrle, Registrar, and Darrell Benge, Comptroller-it is further recommended that these
two individuals be granted faculty voting rights until they retire from Stetson."
Two curriculum issues were brought to the Senate from Dean Gary Maris. The measures went before the
Academic Affairs Committee and then were passed unanimously by the full Senate. The first issue relates to the
pass/fail option. It is suggested that the wording in the current Bulletin section entitled "Pass/Fail Credit" (p.39)
be retitled "Pass/Fail Option" and be replaced with the following text:
"A student has the option of taking on a pass/fail basis a total of two courses not ordinarily pass/faii. To
exercise this option, students must obtain a pass/fail form from the Office of the Registrar, have the form
signed by the faculty adviser, and return it to the Registrar prior to the end of the add period. Once initiated,
the pass/fail option may not be changed.
For students majoring in the College of Arts & Sciences or the School of Music, the pass/fail option may be
used only for courses which are not applied toward a major or minor and not applied toward Foundation
Requirements (Part I) for the Arts and Sciences general education program, or toward the English, Mathematics,
and Communications course requirements for Music School degrees.
