1999 SURE GRANT RECIPIENT TO PRESENT RESEARCH. The Women and Gender Studies Program will sponsor
a roundtable on Tuesday, January 25, at 4:00 p.m. in the Cross-Cultural Center featuring Diane Holmes-Curtice,
one of the 1999 recipients of the Stetson Undergraduate Research Experience grants. Diane will be speaking on
"Veiled Threats: Afghanistan's Prisoners of Silence." All faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend. This

The George H. Shriver Lectures: Religion in American History
The inaugural lectures in the George H. Shriver Lectures: Religion in American History will be given on January
25 and 26, 2000. This series has been endowed by Dr. George Shriver, an alumnus of Stetson University who
recently retired from a long career as a history professor at Georgia Southern University. The Shriver Lectures are
sponsored by the Department of Religious Studies and the Department of History at Stetson.
The inaugural lecturer will be Dr. John F. Wilson, Dean of the Graduate School and Agate Brown and George L.
Collord Professor of Religion at Princeton University. The title for the series of lectures to be given by Dr. Wilson
is "Religion and the American Nation: Historiography and History." The schedule for the lectures is as follows:
January 25, 2000 - 7:00 p.m.
"Religion in America: The Long Shadow of the Puritans"
January 26, 2000 - 12:00 Noon
"Religion in America: Narratives and Paradigms"
January 26, 2000 - 7:00 p.m.
"Reiigion(s) of America: From Civil Religion to Milling at the Mall"
All lectures will be delivered in the Stetson Room of the Carlton Union Building and are open to the public. For
further information contact the Department of Religious Studies.
