DUNCAN GALLERY'S FIRST EXHIBITION OF THE NEW MILLENNIUM! Miami sculptor Robert Huff and Wisconsin
raku artist Rick Foris open the year 2000 with a catered reception in Sampson Hall on Friday, January 14, from
6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Huff is Chair of the Visual Arts Department at Miami-Dade Community College, Kendall Campus.
A builder's son. Huff's work reflects a strong architectural influence in pieces that invite viewers to approach-but
not enter--a world of structure, surface, and space. Foris' raku forms, on view in the Sampson Hall display cases,
are classically inspired vessels enhanced by intricate architectural embellishments and pedestals. Exhibition

STETSON'S WINTER BLOOD DRIVE conducted by the American Red Cross will be held next Wednesday and
Thursday, January 19 and 20, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Stetson Room of the Carlton Union Building.
Please come and donate blood and encourage your friends, colleagues, and students to join you. We need a strong
showing by faculty, administrative staff, and support staff. Donating blood is a tangible way of demonstrating that

1999 SURE GRANT RECIPIENT TO PRESENT RESEARCH. The Women and Gender Studies Program will sponsor
a roundtable at 4:00 p.m. in the Cross-Cultural Center featuring Diane Holmes-Curtice, one of the 1999 recipients
of the Stetson Undergraduate Research Experience grants. Diane will be speaking on "Veiled Threats:
Afghanistan's Prisoners of Silence." All faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend. This is a cultural credit

Mayan novelist, poet, painter and cultural activist Gaspar Gonzalez will be speaking on "The Return of the Maya"
Monday, January 31, at 7:00 p.m. in the Media Center in the basement of the Library. He is a professor of Mayan
literature and the oral tradition as well as a member of the Academy of Mayan Languages of Guatemala. He also
is an official of the Ministry of Culture of Guatemala where he serves as a consultant in Mayan culture. His talk
will focus on recent developments in the Mayan culture revitalization movement and include poetry readings in his
native language of Q'anjob'al (translations will be provided). From: Robert Sitler
REMINDER-LUNCH AND LEARN SERIES. The Counseling Center staff invites all faculty and professional staff to
the Spring Lunch and Learn Series where we discuss topics concerning the University and our students. The first
Lunch and Learn will be January 19 at noon in the Private Dining Room. The cost is $4.50. To make a
