ANNOUNCEMENTS
BACCALAUREATE. The Baccalaureate Service will be held on Saturday, May 6, at 4:00 p.m., in Elizabeth Hall
Auditorium. Selected faculty will form at 3:30 p.m. in the hallway of Elizabeth Hall. The Sermon will be delivered
by Dr. Laura Walters Baskett, University Chaplain.
COMMENCEMENT. Commencement Exercises will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Edmunds Center. The line of march
will form at 6:15 p.m. in front of the Lambda Chi Alpha House on Fraternity Row. Full academic regalia is
requested. The line will move at 6:45 p.m. in order to be seated by 7:00 p.m. In case of rain, the line will form
in the hallway on the first floor, west side of the Edmunds Center.
PRESIDENT'S RECEPTION. The President and Mrs. Lee cordially invite all faculty to attend the President's
Reception for graduates, parents, and friends immediately following Baccalaureate at the President's Home.

A FAREWELL MESSAGE TO FACULTY. As this academic year comes to a close, it occurred to me also that not
only is this the last edition of The Newsletter, but also my last duty as editor. As many of you know The
Newsletter (formerly known as This Week) began in 1980 with me taking over the editorship in 1985. It seems
appropriate then to bid you all farewell through this publication and to thank everyone of you for your support
during my years as administrative assistant in the Office of the Provost/Academic Affairs. It has been my pleasure
to serve you in various ways as well as getting to know many of you personally. While I step down from my
position in a full-time capacity, I may be spotted on occasion working with my replacement (yet to be named).
Thank you all for your patience, good humor, and oftentimes over-tolerance of this sometimes "hard-nosed Brit."

Dr. Marc Lovelace, Professor of History, Emeritus, has a new address effective June 1. 2000. It is: 4201
Salemtowne Drive, Winston Salem, N.C., 27106. Dr. Lovelace, in his message to me, said "I would be grateful
if you will render this service for me to publicize this change, for I do enjoy hearing from various friends there from
time to time ...and keeping in touch with all that is happening in an institution which I love dearly."

Frances Buxton, Professor of Music, Emeritus, will be honored at a memorial service on Wednesday, May 10, at
3:00 p.m., in Elizabeth Hall Chapel. Professor Buxton, who had taught here for 36 years and had served as head
of the violin and theory departments in the School of Music, died early this week. Memorials may be made to the
