ANNOUNCEMENTS
REMINDER--As part of the University's celebration of Black History Month, there will be a two-day program to
foster understanding of the life and work of Howard Thurman.
Wednesday, February 18
11.00 a.m. - 12:00 noon: presentation by the Reverend Jefferson Rogers, Thurman's former student and
the Director of the Howard Thurman Center
12:00 noon - 1:00 p.m.: informal lunch
Thursday, February 19
11:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.: discussion of Thurman's autobiography, With Head and Heart
All events are in the Stetson Room. Thanks to the cooperation of Donald Sanz and catering services, the "Lunch
and Learn Series" will join this Wednesday lunchtime event. Students' lunches are funded by the Institute for
Christian Ethics (for them, there is a free lunch...). The program is a collaboration of Africana Studies, American
Studies, Institute for Christian Ethics, the Howard Thurman Center, and Women and Gender Studies. Thurman's
autobiography is available free to all faculty, staff, and students in exchange for a good faith effort to read the
book. The books have been made possible from funds allocated by the Deans' Council and are available in Allen
Hall-contact June Sitler of the Howard Thurman Center (ext. 7364). Students in Stephanie Athey's WGS100:
Introduction to Women and Gender Studies and Paul Jerome Croce's AS152: Introduction to American Studies
will contribute to the organization of the discussion on Thursday, February 19.

LIBRARY CONSTRUCTION PROJECT. David Noyes, Vice President for Facilities Management, will give a briefing
on the duPont-Ball Library expansion and renovation project Friday, February 20, at noon in Room 5L at the Library.
The University Library Committee, Library Design Advisory Committee, and all interested faculty and staff are
