ANNOUNCEMENTS
University Faculty Meeting, Friday, April 20, 2001, in the Stetson Room from 12:00 noon - 1:15 p.m. The senate
subcommittee on academic quality will lead a discussion by the faculty of the current draft of its proposal. Copies
of the draft will be emailed so that it may be read in advance, since the expectation is to spend most of the
meeting on discussion of the draft, rather than a presentation of the draft. A light lunch will be served beginning

Reception for Retiring Faculty. The Office of Academic Affairs and the College of Arts & Sciences will co-host a
reception on Thursday, May 3, 2001, from 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m., to honor faculty retiring from full time

Honors Convocation has been scheduled for Friday, April 27, 2001 at 12:00 noon in Elizabeth Hall. Department
Chairs and selected Program Directors are reminded that the deadline to submit information regarding the

Ushers Needed for Baccalaureate and Commencement. Volunteer ushers are needed to assist with Baccalaureate
and Commencement, scheduled for May 12, 2001. Please contact Judy Ward (ext 7010 or [email protected]) if

ETTER McTEER TURNER AWARD. Faculty and staff are invited to offer nominations for the seventh annual Etter
McTeer Turner Award, which will recognize the graduating senior who has achieved the highest standard of
excellence in academic performance, leadership, community service, personal character, and integrity. The award
was initiated by the J. Ollie Edmunds family, through the Gualala Foundation, to honor the service of the late
Etter McTeer Turner, and provides a companion student award to the William Hugh McCniry Excellence in
Teaching Award, which also was established by Dr. Edmund's Foundation to recognize faculty members. A
committee, including faculty appointed by the Faculty Senate, will review all nominations and determine the
award recipient. Please provide as much background information as possible for each person who is nominated.
Nominations should be delivered to the Office of Academic Affairs, Unit 8358, by April 16, 2001. The winner will
