UNIVERSITY FACULTY MEETING-Noon. Friday, February 18, Stetson Room. The agenda for the meeting is a
discussion of Academic Quality and Benchmarking. Dr. Michael Branton, Vice Chair of the Faculty Senate and
Senate representative to the University Enrollment Management Committee, will serve as facilitator. Handouts,
which were prepared in consultation with John Tichenor and Kandy Queen-Sutherland, will be available providing
background information and a basis for discussion. Lunch will be served beginning at 11:45 a.m.

REMINDER-ROGER NEWMAN, a Scribes Book Award Winner, Finalist for Pulitzer Prize and Author of the following
titles: Banned Films: Movies. Censors and the First Amendment, and The Constitution and Its Amendments will
speak on Tuesday, February 15, at 6:30 p.m., in the Stetson Room, on the topic of "Sex, Censorship and the

ED OSBURN, digital artist, to lecture. San Francisco digital artist Ed Osborn will give a lecture in the Duncan
Gallery of Art this coming Monday evening, February 14, at 7:00 p.m. He is one of eight whose works will be on
exhibit in Technology and Identity which opens Thursday, February 17, in the gallery, with a catered opening
reception 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday the 18th. Lecture and opening reception are free and open to the public.
Arts and Sciences cultural credit applied for students.
Technology and Identity, an exhibition of digital art, opens Thursday, February 17 in the Duncan Gallery of Art.
President Lee will sponsor an artists' reception on Friday, February 18, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Sampson Hall
foyer. The works of San Francisco artists Ed Osborn, Alice Finney, and Gail Wight, as well as that of Deborah
Sayre (Texas), Luc Courchesne (Canada), Marcin Ramocki and Akiko Sakizumi (DeLand; Ramocki is currently
Visiting Assistant Professor of Digital Arts at Stetson), and M.I.T. researcher Steve Mann, will be on display
through March 26. Reception and exhibition are free and open to the public. Arts and Sciences cultural credit

A memorial service for Dr. Gene Medlin, Professor of Mathematics/Computer Science, Emeritus, will be held at the
First Baptist Church in DeLand on Sunday, February 27 at 3:30 p.m. Dr. Medlin came to Stetson in 1958 to teach
mathematics and computer science and to serve as chair of the department, a position he held for 25 years. He
retired in 1991. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial donations be made to the First Baptist
Church of DeLand Building Fund or to the West Volusia Historical Society.
