ALISON SAAR LECTURE. Los Angeles-based Alison Saar is scheduled to give a slide lecture 7:30 p.m. Monday,
March 29, in the Duncan Gallery of Art. The African-American figurative sculptor's works have exhibited in
prestigious venues including Washington DCs Hirshborn Museum, New York's Whitney Museum, Atlanta's High
Museum, and the White House. The daughter of artist parents Betye (assemblage art) and Richard (ancient
artifacts conservator) Saar, Alison grew up where "art was in the house constantly; it wasn't something (l)had to
go out and learn." Lecture is free and open to the public. Arts and Sciences cultural credit applies.

TIME WARNER COMMUNICATIONS EXCELLENCE IN SPORTS PROGRAM will be conducting its Golf Clinic on
Saturday, March 27, featuring instruction from Hatter coaches and athletes. The clinic will be held at the LPGA
International from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. All school age children ages five to seventeen are invited to attend and will
receive a free t-shirt, and a chance to win prizes. All the families and friends of faculty and staff are encouraged
to attend. Please bring golf clubs if your child has them. Please call Keith at ext. 8110 if you have any questions.

Live in Elizabeth Hall, Tuesday, March 30, 7:30 p.m.-The Stetson chapter of Sigma Alpha lota, a national women's
music sorority, will present a concert performed entirely by women. The works are by women and/or American
composers, and most are recent compositions. From: Jan Kindred
The Women and Gender Studies will sponsor a Roundtable Discussion on Thursday, April 1, at 4:00 p.m. in 308
Elizabeth Hall. Leading the discussion will be senior student Marsha Heard, Sociology, who will present a synopsis
of her senior research on "Gender Differences in the Mass Media: A Content Analysis of Sports Illustrated Winter
Olympic Issues, 1980-94." The WGS Roundtable is an Arts and Sciences cultural credit event. Please join us as
Marsha "warms up" for her first professional conference presentation, which will be the following week.

The Stetson Faculty Senate invites the participation of each student and faculty member in submitting nominations
for the William Hugh McEniry Award for Excellence in Teaching. All full-time teaching faculty on the DeLand
campus are eligible, except for the following recent recipients (Ranjini Thaver, Betty Thorne, Leonard Nance,
Michael Rickman, and Gareth Williams). The criteria for nomination include excellence in classroom teaching,
professional growth, intellectual stimulation given to the academic community outside the classroom, and service
to students and the University as a whole. Final selection will be made by a secret Senate Committee and
announced during the Spring Commencement, May 9. Nominations should be sent to the McEniry Nominations
Committee, Unit 8272, and must be received by April 13, 1999. Attached elsewhere to The Newsletter is the
