REMINDER-The University Faculty will meet on Friday, March 17, in Rinker AuditOfiufllj, Davis Hall, at noon. The
agenda is a discussion of the University Faculty and Faculty Senate Bylaws. Lunch will be provided beginning at

U.S. SENATOR MAX CLELAND will give a public speech on Friday evening, March 17, at 8:00 p.m. in the Rinker
Field House. Senator Cleland is a Stetson graduate and former cabinet official, a Vietnam War hero, as well as a
Democratic U.S. Senator. He is also an entertaining and inspirational speaker. Please join us. This event is free
and open to the public and also counts as a cultural event in meeting the College of Arts & Sciences requirements.

REBECCA WALKER SPEAKS ON 'THIRD WAVE' FEMINISM. On Monday, March 20, writer and social activist
Rebecca Walker will talk about how women and men in their late teens and 20s are reinterpreting the feminism
of previous generations. Ms. Walker is a writer, social activist, and third-wave feminist who speaks regularly on
issues of gender, race, and sexuality on campuses across the nation. Her talk, "to be real: telling the truth and
changing the face of feminism," will be at 7:00 p.m. in the Large Presentation Room of the Media Center.
Students will receive cultural credit. A reception (with refreshments) in the foyer of Sampson Hall will follow the
lecture.

Stetson University's Latin American Studies Program is sponsoring the visit of Dr. Alicia Veneziano Esperon, from
the University of the Republic of Uruguay's Institute of Political Science. Dr. Veneziano will talk about efforts
currently underway in Uruguay's capital city of Montevideo to promote greater citizen involvement in neighborhood
affairs and municipal government. These efforts are promoted by a broad coalition of Leftist parties that united
in opposition to military rule in the 1970s and 1980s and then succeeded in breaking the decades-long domination
of Uruguayan politics by the country's two traditional political parties. Such experiments in participatory
democracy are part of the platform of a new post-Cold War Left in Latin America and can be seen in Left-governed
cities and states in such countries as Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, and Argentina. Dr. Veneziano's talk, "The Politics
of Decentralization and Popular Participation," is free and open to the public. It will be held on Tuesday, March
21, at 7:00 p.m. in the Carlton Union Building (Room 204). From: Divina Bungard

at 4:00 p.m. in Night Lights. Everyone in the Stetson community is invited to attend.
