UNIVERSITY FACULTY MEETING-Monday, February 21, 10:00 a.m. Rinker Auditorium. Davis Hall. The proposed
1995-96 calendar-attached elsewhere-will be considered.
CANDIDATE FOR VICE PRESIDENT FOR BUSINESS AND FINANCE SEARCH. A reminder that Ann Graham, the
first of four candidates, will visit our campus Monday and Tuesday, February 21 and 22. Attached is the schedule
for Margaret Catanese the second of four finalists for the position of Vice President for Business and Finance to
visit our campus. Everyone is invited to attend the open meeting on Thursday, February 24, 4:00 p.m., in the
Rinker Auditorium, and to ask questions. A reminder that complete curriculum vitae and letters of application are
on reserve in the Library for all four finalists. I encourage you to go by the Library and read them. If you have any
questions regarding the schedule for Margaret Catanese call me or Maggie. Those people involved in a meal

On Wednesday, February 23, 1994, Dr. Kathryn Lee Seidel from the University of Central Florida will speak at the
Encounter Program, 10:00 a.m. in Elizabeth Hall Auditorium. Dr. Seidel is a professor of English, Associate Dean
of Arts & Sciences, and author of The Southern Belle in the American Novel (Univ. Presses of Florida, 1985), and
co-editor of Zora in Florida (Univ. Presses of Florida, 1991).
Dr. Seidel will talk about the goals of diversity in the academy and some of the problems that may arise when a
university's traditions are confronted by larger numbers of women and people of color. Her talk is entitled "Taking
the Bite Out of Backlash."

REMINDER-On Thursday, February 24, Boris Gasparov from Columbia University will give a lecture at 8:00 p.m.
in the John E. Johns Room (315 EH). His topic will be "The Status of Russian Semiotics in Post-Structuralist
Criticism." Professor Gasparov will focus his remarks on the life and work of the late Yuri Lotman, and particularly
Lotman's last book, Universe of the Mind: A Semiotic Theory of Culture. See last week's edition of The

STUDENT MAIL BOXES. Please remember that all students were assigned a new campus box number last May.
It is very important that staff and faculty members use the correct box number when addressing campus mail to
students. We are still receiving campus mail with last year's box number, which increases our forwarding and
delays the mail. To ensure the mail is delivered the day the post office receives it, please use the correct number
