FACULTY PLEASE NOTE: The University Faculty Meeting scheduled for Monday, April 17, has been CANCELLED.

Collegial Seminar will meet today, Friday, April 14, at noon in the Private Dining Room. The presentation will be
made by Ranjini Thaver, assistant professor of economics, who only recently completed her defense of her
dissertation. The presentation is related to that important milestone of her career: "The Role of the Informal
Sector in Restructuring the South African Economy." Bring your lunch; coffee and dessert provided by Dean Gary

REMINDER-The Georgia Sea Island Singers will perform at Encounter, April 19, at 10:00 a.m. Frankie and Doug
Quimby, the second generation of the Georgia Sea Island Singers, are celebrating their 25th year as international
touring artists. Their concerts are a musical moment in history as the duo brings to their audience the spirited
songs and stories, games and dances created by slaves over 200 years ago and preserved in the isolated island
communities off the coast of the southern United States. Retained in these remote barriers islands is a rich
reservoir of African-American culture handed down through the generations in the time-honored oral tradition. This
husband and wife team have been featured in Time, People, and Southern Living. The Quimby's have performed
at the White House, Carnegie Hall, the Smithsonian, Wolf Trap and a year last February represented the United
States at the Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway. The Quimby's will also be giving a Lecture Recital
Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Elizabeth Hall Chapel. There will be a reception immediately following the
program in Elizabeth Hall sponsored by the Women and Gender Studies Program.
REMINDER--We are seeking nominations for two graduating seniors (one male and one female) to be
Commencement speakers for the May Commencement ceremony. If there are students you would like to nominate
for this honor, please submit their names to campus box 8334 or ext. 7222, no later than Monday. April 17. We
will then send an application to each nominee and approved applicants will be voted upon by undergraduate

Mark your calendar for The Gala, Friday, April 28, at 8:00 p.m. in Peabody Auditorium, Daytona Beach. You
should already have received an invitation from Doug and Margaret Lee, so this is a reminder. This is the first time
our School of Music has performed in Peabody, but we hope to repeat each year, depending on the response this
year. Dedicated to the long cooperative relationship between Stetson University and East Volusia County. Ih§
Gala will feature the best of the School of Music, from the Children's Choir to the ensembles to the Choral Union.
It will also honor former Board of Trustees Chair Hyatt Brown as the 1995 recipient of the Champion of Higher

REMINDER--The annual campus-wide master calendar meeting will be on Monday, April 24, CUB room 204-5 at
10:00 a.m. Any department or organization having major events to be placed on the calendar, please submit to
campus Box 8334 as soon as possible. You also need to call Student Life Office by April 17 to reserve a seat and
