ANNOUNCEMENTS
On Wednesday, January 12, at 11:00 a.m., "Music Encounter" will feature several performers from the School
of Music including Michael Rickman, piano; David Bjella, cello; Dmitri Diatchenko, guitar; Harvey Burgett, organ;
the Stetson Singers; and the Brass Quintet. Sims Kline and Ellen Smith will serve as co-introducers for the four-

SPECIAL EVENTS FOR WINTER TERM
Dr. John R. McNeill (Professor of Environmental and Intersocietal History, Georgetown University) will deliver a
public lecture, "Survival of the Dirtiest?: International Systems and Environmental Change in History" at 8:00 p.m.,
Monday, January 10, in the Elizabeth Hall Auditorium.
In conjunction with Professor McNeill's visit, Paul Jerome Croce has arranged with the duPont-Ball Library to
display some of Dr. McNeill's publications.
Dr. James Bellis (Professor of Anthropology, Notre Dame University) will be presenting a public lecture entitled
"Anthropology's Role in the Multicultural Dialogue" at 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 13, in the Elizabeth Hall
Auditorium.
Dr. Bellis will continue his remarks in a lecture entitled "The Archaeology of Multiculturalism." Members of the
Stetson community are invited. Rinker Auditorium in Davis Hall, 4:00-6:00 p.m.

MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY EVENTS
The following events are scheduled to commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. We encourage you to participate and
to do everything possible to encourage students to participate. Where appropriate you might consider incorporating
these events into your Winter Term course.
MONDAY, JANUARY 17-7:30 a.m. Edmunds Center: Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast. The breakfast will be
followed by a commemorative march to DeLand City Hall. For tickets contact Steve Coleman at ext. 7227.
Tickets are $7.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 22-11:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The Winter Term Committee and Department of Student Life
will present Culturefest '94. This cultural program will be held at the Carlton Union Building and showcase cultural
