All members of the Stetson community are invited to attend a reception for Dr. Gene W.
Medlin, Department of Math/Computer Science. Dr. Medlin has served Stetson University
for 32 years and will be retiring this year. The reception is today Friday, May 4, in
the Faculty Lounge, from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.

Today, Friday May 4, at 8:00 p.m. in Elizabeth Hall, the Stetson University Orchestra
under the direction of Thomas Sleeper, will perform the Second Symphony of Jean
Sibelius and the 3rd Piano Concerto of Prokofiev. Clint Cormany, one of this year's
winners in the student concerto competition (student of Michael Rickman), will be
soloist. The Stetson Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Alvaro Gomez, will
give its premier performance that evening with the Grieg Holberg Suite.

COMMENCEMENT: The Reverend Billy Graham has informed us that he will not be able to
be here for Commencement. His recovery from surgery to remove a portion of a rib has
been slower than expected and he is not able to travel. He very much regrets not
being able to be with us. At press time, no decision has been made about a speaker.
The procedure we had set up for the distribution of tickets is not in effect. Tickets
will not be required for admission to the ceremony. From: Provost Lou Brakeman
FREIBURG EXCHANGES. For three years now, we have had short-term exchanges with the
Paedagogishe Hochschule in Freiburg. Drs. Gillespie, Fort, and Boyd have participated
in past years, and Professors Neithard Clemens, Peter Guenther, and Rainer Goetz have
visited our campus. Faculty members who are interested in the exchange in January
1991 should speak with Jesse Berry (ext. 7279), who has an information sheet and
application forms. It is quite possible we will be able to arrange a second short
term exchange in 1990-91, this one in May, following Commencement. If you have an
application already on file, you might let Dr. Berry know if you are still interested
and if additional information might strengthen your application. Dr. Berry will
receive applications and consult with the appropriate departments and deans. A
recommendation will come to the Provost who will make the final decision.
