ANNOUNCEMENTS
Collegial Seminar on Monday, April 16, will feature the topic "The Ancient Near East:
A Contemporary Study." The Near East has been a volatile area throughout much of
human history. Geographically, politically, and religiously it has been, and still
remains, a land of contrasts. This presentation will discuss the recent Winter Term
trip to Israel, Jordan, and Egypt led by Professors Clyde Fant and Mitchell Reddish,
Department of Religion. Topics covered will include pedagogical methods employed in
the course, learning experiences of the students, and a brief description of the
significance of the sites visited. Bring a lunch to the Private Dining Room any time
after 12:00. Presentation will begin shortly after 12:15 and will end at 1:15.
Coffee and dessert provided by Dean Gary Maris, College of Arts and Sciences.

The University's Spring Blood Drive will be held Monday, April 16, from noon until
6:00 p.m. and Tuesday, April 17, from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the Stetson Room.
Please support the Blood Drive by donating blood and by encouraging your colleagues

Alexander Raskatov, composer-in-residence, will give a lecture on the music of Edison
Denisov at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, in Room 352 of Presser Hall. Denisov is
a major Soviet composer and advocate of new music. He and Raskatov are founding
members of the Association for Contemporary Music—2. The original A.CM. was active
in the 1920 's but was dissolved during the Stalinist repressions. It was reestablished in January of 1990. From: Professor Charles McKnight, School of Music
A reminder that advanced registration for the Summer Session and Fall Semester will be
held on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 17 and 18, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on
Thursday, April 19, from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. The Registrar's office will open at noon
on Tuesday and Wednesday and at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday to accommodate the registration
