ANNOUNCEMENTS
Collegial Seminar sponsored by the College of Arts & Sciences will meet today Friday,
April 15, at noon in the Private Dining Room. The paper of the day will be on
"Religious Authority: A Philosophical and Theological Perspective" by Dr. Donald
Musser, Department of Religion. The seminar is open to all interested persons; bring

INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM—Monday and Tuesday, April 18-19. Faculty, staff and
students—you are invited! Stetson's inaugural International Symposium entitled "The
Persian Gulf Conflict: A Global Perspective" begins Monday with four nationally-
recognized specialists as participants. A complete schedule of events with
biographical sketches of the participants is attached to this edition of This Week.
Due to limited seating, persons interested in attending one of the luncheons (free),
should reserve a place by calling extension 603. The International Symposium
Committee looks forward to seeing you Monday and Tuesday. From: Dr. Bruce Bradford
Dr. Charles B. Duke, a Senior Research Fellow and manager at the Xerox Webster
Research Center will deliver a talk entitled "No Guts No Glory: The Decline of
American Manufacturing" on Wednesday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Stetson Room of
the Carlton Union Building. With the current loss of America's competitiveness in
both scientific and technological fields, the talk should be of interest to everyone.
Dr. Duke's visit is sponsored by the Visiting Scientist Program of the American

ARTS AND SCIENCES FACULTY: Please note that the College faculty meeting has been
changed from April 28 to April 26. We will meet at 4:00 p.m. in Room 100 Flagler Hall
to discuss the Curriculum's Committee's actions and hear a brief report from the

"FACULTY AS LEADERS" will be the topic for a faculty professional development workshop
scheduled for May 17, 18, and 19 from 9:00 a.m. — 2:00 p.m. each day (lunch
provided). I have called together a few faculty—some from the "old" Leadership Task
Force and two from the Professional Development Committee as an ad hoc group to plan
such an event. The group has just recently decided to do such a workshop. We are
working on the format. Details to follow. I write now so you might hold these dates,
