FACULTY AND STAFF ACTIVITIES
The following announcements have been received from the Schools/College, and
University Departments.
Dr. Mark Young, Assistant Professor of Education and Counselor, presented a paper on
Counseling and Values with Dr. Fred Bemack of Johns Hopkins, at the International
Values Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio, on February 11, 1990.
Dr. Nancy Vosburg, Assistant Professor of Foreign Languages, presented her paper
"Journeys Out of the Body: The Exilic Mythographies of Remedios Varo and Merce
Rodoreda" a the Southeast Conference on Foreign Languages and Literatures, Rollins
College, on February 23.
Dr. Anthony T. Jusick, Associate Professor of Physics, co-authored an article with K.
G. Strassmeir, D.S. Hall, W.S. Barksdale, and G.W. Henry has just been published in
The Astrophysical Journal. The article analyzed photometric data obtained for a
variable star and was entitled, "HR 1362: A Test Case for Stellar Dynamo Theories."
On February 15-16, Dr. Wayne Dickson, Professor of English, served at the Department
of Education in Tallahassee on a committee reviewing and revising the item specifications for a proposed updating of the Writing subtest of the CLAST examination.
Dr. Fred K. Augustine, Jr., Assistant Professor of Information Systems, has been
appointed to the Publications Committee of the Information Resources Management
Association.
Dr. Robert L. Perkins, Professor of Philosophy and Religion, has been asked by Dr.
Haim Gordon of Beer Sheba University to serve on the editorial board of the
Encyclopedia of Philosophy, to write several articles, and to edit the submissions of
the American contributors. The Encyclopedia will be published in 1991 by Greenwood
Publishers.
Perkins is the author of the article "Perspectivity, Objectivity and World in Hegel's
Philosophy" published in The Owl of Minerva, the journal of the Hegel Society of
America of which Dr. Perkins is the past vice-president. The article was previously
read at the Internationale Hegel Geschellschaft in Athens, Greece.
Mr. Kemper Smith III, Director of Residential Life, presented a program "Incorporating
Student Development into the Disciplinary Process" at the annual conference of the
Southeastern Association of Housing Officers in Jackson, MS, February 21-24. Smith
also participated in the report "The Future of SEAHO—Moving Into the 21st Century"
for an Association task force in which he has been involved for the past year. Also
attending SEAHO from Residential Life were Mary Ann Loftus, Anthony Ovens, and Carol
Hafer. Another program was presented by Vast! Torres, 1982 Stetson graduate in Speech
and Theater, now at Emory University.
