ANNOUNCEMENTS
REMINDER. A campus-wide meeting of administrators and staff members will be held on Wednesday. January
20 from 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. in the Stetson Room of the Carlton Union Building. University offices will be
closed from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. to permit attendance. All members of the administration and staff are requested
to attend, and faculty members are also welcome to come and share coffee, donuts, and conversation with

REMINDER. The English Department announces the following contests for awards,
prize. Please help us publicize these awards by announcing them in your classes.

The William B. Taylor Creative Writing Award. This award is given for unusual performance in creative
writing. Competition is open to students who will have junior or senior status at the beginning of the
spring semester. Previous winners are not eligible. Nominations are solicited from the faculty, but the
competition is open-any student with the required junior or senior status may enter. Entry is by
submission of a portfolio of writings representing the author's best work as well as its range and
extent. Deadline for nominations from the faculty is Tuesday. February 9, 1993. Deadline for
submissions is Thursday, April 1, 1993. Nominations and submissions should be made to Dr. Bryan
Gillespie, Room 102, Flagler Hall. Rules governing submission are available in the English Office, Room
100, F'-jgler Hall.
C. Carter Colwell Award for Research in English. This award, new this year, recognizes a senior for
outstanding research in English. Students with senior standing at the beginning of the Fall Term are
invited to submit a portfolio of two to three research-based writings in English studies. The portfolio
should include the student's Senior Project. Deadline for submissions is Friday. April 9. 1993.
Submissions should be made to Dr. T. Witek, Room 133, Flagler Hall. Rules governing submission are
available in the English Office, Room 110, Flagler Hall.
Janet Howard Taylor Shakespeare Prize. Students are invited to submit an essay of no more than
1500 words dealing with the writings of William Shakespeare or those of his contemporary dramatists
in their relation to Shakespeare. The competition is open to all Stetson undergraduates. Previous
winners are not eligible. Deadline for submission is Monday. April 12. 1993. Submissions should be
made to Dr. Bryan Gillespie, Room 102, Flagler Hall. Rules governing submission are available in the
English Office, Room 100, Flagler Hall.
