ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Student Academic Affairs Committee of the Student Government Association, the Faculty Academic Affairs
Committee of the Senate, and the Faculty Senate Executive Committee will sponsor an INFORMATION SESSION
on WINTER TERM on Monday. February 8. from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. in Elizabeth Hall Auditorium. Several
speakers will discuss a variety of perspectives regarding the Winter Term/two-semester calendar. A question
and answer period will follow. All students and faculty are urged to attend.

In order to accommodate the schedule of committee meetings and the information session concerning Winter
Term, the Faculty Senate meeting has been postponed until Monday. February 15. 1993.

ATTENTION ARTS 4 SCIENCES FACULTY! The January 29 edition of The Newsletter contained a notice from
Provost Brakeman regarding Academic Computing Proposals for the 1993-94 academic year. Even if you already
filled out the survey from me at the beginning of the academic year regarding your computing needs, you will
still need to submit a proposal to Dean Maris by February 22. The only exceptions to this are people who have
agreed to accept used lab equipment and whose needs will thus be met. The Academic Computing Committee
used the initial survey information to assess the need for computing resources by school; however, the respective
Deans will make decisions regarding the allocation of faculty computing resources for the 1993-94 year (including
requests for new machines, upgrades to existing machines, etc.).

DEADLINE EXTENDED. Faculty interested in cross-listing Fall 1993 courses for credit toward the Women and
Gender Studies Minor can still submit their course for approval to the WGS Committee. The new deadline is
Tuesday. February 10. Call Ann Morris, ext. 7724, or the English Department office to get guidelines for

INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM. The Annual International Symposium this year focuses on South Africa. The
dates are February 22 and 23, Monday and Tuesday. An announcement about the program appears elsewhere
in this edition under the headline "African Symposium." A special bookfeast event will be held on February 16.

POSTING GRADES. It has been brought to my attention that all of us here at Stetson have the obligation to
carefully limit any publication of a student's social security number. University Legal Counsel advises that we
make every effort to meet this obligation. In this connection, on advice of legal counsel, I write to ask faculty
not to use social security numbers in posting grades. It may well be advisable not to post grades at all, but if
anyone does choose to do so, some other code not tied to social security numbers should be used. Please speak
