Dr. Philip Winstead from Furman University will present a seminar on Thursday, January 29
at 4 pm in the John's Lecture Room in Elizabeth Hall. His subject will be "Institutional
Planning". Faculty and staff are invited to attend to enable them to provide more informed input as the University begins consideration of a more formal planning process.
Dr. Winstead's visit to the campus on January 29 and 30 is supported by a grant from the
Kellogg Foundation.
Dr. Garth Jenkins, Dean of Student Affairs, has been appointed to the Professional
Advisory Committee of the Volusia County Mental Health Association. He joins Counseling
Center Director Geor Hood on this group. The Committee, chaired by Dean Paul Thompson
of Daytona Beach Community College, serves as a resource to the professional community
in developing innovative and aggressive methods of improving public attitudes toward
mental illness.
The library has recently received a copy of the: 1981 Tax Guide For College Teachers
and Other College Personnel. Stetson Faculty and Staff may find this volume useful.
It is shelved in the Reference Section and is not for circulation.
The Health Department's Cardiac Screening Van will be on campus February 9. Faculty &
staff are asked to call ext. 486 for an appointment. Only 18 appointments are available.
Dr. Gareth Williams has recently had the paper "Mathemateg, Iaith Gwyddoniaeth",
published in the Welsh scientific journal "Y Gwyddonydd". (Mathematics, the Language
of Science.)
Harry Garber, Chairperson of our Department of Management and Marketing, was recently
elected Vice-President of the Central Florida Chapter of the American Society for
Public Administration (ASPA). Elected President at the same time, was Howard Tipton,
City Manager of Daytona Beach, who succeeded Tom Kelly, County Manager of Volusia.
Dr. Garber was also elected Program-Chairperson for the Chapter.
Miss Concha Breton, Professor Emeritus of Spanish at Wellesley College, passed away
after a brief illness on December 15, 1980, in Barcelona, Spain. Miss Breton served
for several years as Visiting Professor in the Department of Foreign Languages.
