The final report of the Visiting Committee of the Southern Association of Colleges
and Schools has now been received from the Commission on Colleges of SACS. We are
duplicating this report and copies will be available for faculty and professional staff
to read in the offices of the President, Deans Turner, Chauvin, Langston, Nylen and in
the Library through the office of Mr. Myers.
Let me caution you with reference to the use of this document with a quotation
from the cover letter from the Southern Association. "The report should be made a-
vailable only to persons directly connected with the institution. You are requested
not to quote any part of the Visiting Committee's report in publications by or about
the institution . . . . " The letter goes on to say that the report will be reviewed
in October by the Committee on Standards and Reports and that we should prepare a
written statement of our response to the recommendations of the Visiting Committee.
This response is to be submitted by September 1, 1981.
As you know, we have already been working hard on our response to these recommendations. This is one of the reasons we have been moving with great dispatch to revise
our bylaws and policy statements. /s/ Pope A. Duncan
Information is available in my office on fellowships for college teachers from the
National Endowment for the Humanities for 1982-83. The tenure of these fellowships is
for six to twelve months and the stipend is up to $22,000. The application deadline
is June 1, 1981 and awards will be announced in early December 1981. If you are interested please come by and examine the information available. I will be happy to discuss
with you prospects for a leave or a sabbatical. /s/ Thomas J. Turner

The faculty line-of-march will form at 8:00 A.M. in the corridor
COMMENCEMENT: The graduation exercises will take place at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 17,
in the Edmunds Center. THE PLATFORM PARTY WILL ASSEMBLE FOR COMMENCEMENT IN THE LOBBY
OF EMILY HALL AT 1:30 P.M. THE FACULTY LINE-OF-MARCH WILL FORM IN THE REAR OF EMILY
HALL AT 1:30 P.M.
All faculty members are expected to attend in full academic regalia unless officially
