A big THANK YOU to those faculty and staff on the Alumni Annual Fund
Telethon Team who gave so generously of their time on the evening of
March 27! Our team is credited with the final amount of putting the
drive over its $75,000 goal. Special thanks, too, to Gary Maris and
Donna Turner, each of whom secured 11 pledges, to Maxine Patterson who
secured a $525 pledge, and again to Donna Turner who secured an increased
pledge of $230. We're going to miss those Turners!

Dr. Dan Hale, Department of Psychology, recently attended the Southeastern
Psychological Association meeting in Washington, D.C. where he chaired a
symposium dealing with recent developments in the regulation of professional psychology. He also presented a paper entitled "Is Licensing of
Psychologists in the the Public Interest?"
Dwaine Cochran, Department of Psychology, presided at a program entitled
Evaluation of a Mental Health Program: Community Needs, Agency Effectiveness and Administrative Decisions at the Southeastern Psychological
Association meeting in Washington, D.C, March 27-30. Dr. Cochran also
read a paper entitled Measuring the Effectiveness of a Mental Health
Agency. John Schorr, Department of Sociology, read a paper entitled
Using a Community Survey to Provide Normative Data for an Evaluation
System. Leo Salter, Director of the Human Resources Center in Daytona
Beach, ended the program with Implications of the Outcome of Evaluation
Research on Administrative Decisions. ~~~ "
Bruce C. Bradford, Department of Geography, and John K. Schorr, Department
of Sociology, presented a paper entitled "High School Characteristics
and Functional Literacy: The Case of Florida" at the annual meeting of
the American Educational Research Association. The meetings took place
in Boston during the second week of April.
Professor Fred Messersrnith, Chairman of the Department of Art, will present a watercolor demonstration at the 113th Annual Meeting of the
American Watercolor Society on Saturday, April 19, at the National
Academy Galleries in New York City. Mr. Messersrnith's painting, "Azure
City", was selected for the annual exhibition and received the honor of
being chosen to travel to various museums in the United States for one
year with other members of this prestigious group. On April 20 he will
give another lecture/demonstration at the Abingdon Square Painters studios
in New York.
