for the spring semester of 1979 during the absence of Mr. Messersrnith, who

Art Marshall and Carol Ann Edwards were not in class Thursday, February 22
because they were taping a television show for Stetson University to be
shown on Channel 2.
The Florida Association for the Gifted and the State Department of Education
held a teacher training institute on our campus. This was coordinated by
Dr. James Coffee and Dr. Ruth Arnold. Dr. Arnold spoke at 3 sessions on
"Using Guilford's Structure of Intellect to teach the Gifted and Creative."
Dr. John Schorr of the Department of Sociology and Dr. Bruce Bradford of the
Department of Geography-Geology participated in the annual meeting of the
Eastern Educational Research Association, February 20-22, hosted by the
University of South Carolina. They presented a paper entitled "Correlates
of Competency: A School District Level Analysis of Functional Literacy in
Florida."
The Faculty Senate will be in regular session on Tuesday evening, March 6,
1979, at 6:45 in the Faculty Lounge, CUB. All members of the faculty are
cordially invited to attend Senate meetings.
Dr. Marc Lovelace of the History Department attended a symposium at Duke
University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill February 23-
24, 1979, as a part of a Southern Sectional meeting of the Archeological
Institute of America. The theme of the converence was The Archaeology of
Trade in the East Mediterranean (Journey Into the Past: Confrontation with
the Future).
Dr. Jesse L. Berry from the Department of Foreign Languages attended the
Seventh Annual Conference on Twentieth Century Literature at the University
of Louisville, February 21-23. The topic of the conference was: "Games in
Twentieth Century Literature" Dr. Berry was chairman of a session in German literature, titled: "Play of all Sorts".
Dr. William Bailey, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Dr. Gardner Stacy,
President of the American Chemical Society, have appointed Dr. Theodore W.
Beiler to the Society Committee on Budget and Finance.
