President Duncan has asked me to chair a committee to review the committee structure of
the University, to recommend a list of University committees, and analyze the responsibilities
of each committee proposed. If you have any suggestions about changes in the committee
structure, it is urgent that you send them to me as soon as possible. ~ — - -

ALL LIBERAL ARTS FACULTY MEMBERS, if you have not returned your schedule cards
to Dean Chauvin's office, kindly do so at your earliest convenience.
A meeting of the Faculty Senate has been called to discuss tenure and promotion policies and
procedures. This meeting will be held in the Faculty Lounge (CUB) at 8:00 p.m. , Wednesday,
February 22. All faculty, as usual, are invited to this meeting. Is I Dr. C. Vedder
Monday, February 20, the Mathematics Department will host Professor Stanislaw Ulam of
the University of Colorado. He will present a non-technical lecture entitled "Adventures of
a Mathematician" at 11:00 in room 210E. Professor Ulam is one of the outstanding international mathematicians of this century and he has made significant contributions to the
theoretical work in the Manhattan Project. His presence at Stetson is sponsored by the
Artists and Lecturers Committee.
Dr. Michael W. Raymond's essay "Teaching Writing: Is Opportunity Spelled with an 'F'?"
has been published in I_e Florida English Journal, II (January, 1978), 16-20.
THE UNIVERSITY HEALTH SERVICE announces that there is a type of flu on campus at
near-epidemic proportions. Many of those afflicted are in-patients in the Infirmary for a
period of days. Mrs. Janice Hess would like the faculty to know that a large percentage of
these students are missing classes due to their high temperatures and other symptoms and
some have perhaps been unable to notify their instructors. The Office of Student Affairs has
sent out a few notices, but it is suggested by Mrs. Hess that any instructors wishing to check
on absences of a student who may be a victim of this flu telephone the Infirmary at Ext. 486
for immediate confirmation. The Infirmary has the charts available and would be more likely
to have definite information at hand than the Office of Student Affairs, /a/ Mrs. J. Hess
The Stetson University Model Senate Program and Artists and Lecturers Committee are
bringing to campus Senator Inouye (March 2, 8:00 p.m.), Senator McClure (March 3,
8:00 p.m. ) and Senator Stone (March 4, 7:00 p.m. ). I hope you will make note of this unusual
event of having three contemporary U. S. Senators on campus in one week and, where approp-

The following students will be on a Forensics Tournament trip this week end. They will miss
classes on Friday, February 17. They will be at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia.
