President Duncan has asked me to set up a procedure for obtaining
University approval before the submission of grant requests or proposals
to the Federal Government. Such a procedure has now been established and
it involves a review by the Dean of the school involved, the Dean of the
University and the Comptroller. This committee will review all requests
that have the prior approval of the chairman of the department involved.
One week should be allowed for this review, thus the completed proposals
should be submitted to the Office of the Dean of the University one week
before the date on which it should be mailed.
If the grant or contract contains any salary for the staff members
involved, the amount should be justified in terms of the University salary
and release time. The document must also include a figure for overhead
or indirect charges.
Any questions about these matters may be directed to the Office of the
Dean of the University. We will be glad to assist in these matters and
will provide a check sheet for the appropriate signatures required for
University approval. /s/ Dean Turner

various items of University information including a current set of Senate

Optional Unionmutual Life Insurance Faculty and staff participating in
this optional life group will have an adjustment in monthly premiums effective
for February coverage which is deducted from the January 31 payroll. The
new monthly deduction will be $7.10. This increase is a reflection of
experience and increasing age factors in the group. (For those over 65
