Effective Monday, April 24, open swimming hours at the University pool will be from noon
to 5:00 p.im. daily. Is I H. G. Edmondson
If anyone still has not made an application for graduation for this May, they should do so
immediately in the Registrar's office.
Dr. Richard H. Wood of the Department of Economics has been appointed to a Fulbright
Lectureship in Economics at the Universidad Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico, beginning
in mid-July, 1978 for eleven months.
The West Volusia YMCA is currently involved in a capital funds campaign to raise $200, 000
to build a swimming pool in DeLand. This facility will not only fill a void in meeting the needs
of the adults and youth of the area, but it will mean that the Stetson pool will be used exclusively by our students and the Stetson community. Robert Fox, William Stepp, Jack Fortes
and Richard Morland are serving as volunteer workers in the campaign. If you would like
to make a contribution or pledge over a three-year period, please get in touch with one of them,
for there will be no blanket solicitation of the faculty. Any amount is welcomed. We are
hopeful that a large number of the faculty members and staff will contribute in order to
demonstrate that the University supports this most worthwhile project. The names of those
who pledge $100 for three years will be permanently inscribed on the "Builders Wall" in the
new building.
Dr. Rob Brady has been selected to participate in the National Endowment for the Humanities
Summer Seminars program. He will be working with Professor Roderick M. Chisholm of
Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island this summer. The area of study will be
philosophical problems about the self.
Miss Jan MacKiernan, senior, and Dr. Eliane Norman of the Biology Department presented a
paper, "Reproductive Biology of Nemastylis floridana, " at the Florida Academy of Sciences
Meetings in Orlando on April 14. Miss MacKiernan has also been offered a $3, 600 fellowship
to Duke University for graduate study.
Aa Advanced Life Savings and Water Safety Course will be given only to Stetson students and
children of faculty and staff beginning April 24 and ending May 5. The class will meet Monday
through Friday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the exception of Thursday, April
I'K which will be rescheduled to another time. Any person wishing to take the course should
come to the pool April 24 at 7:00 p.m. with a swim suit ready to swim the first evening. You
must be sixteen years of age and a fairly strong swimmer to take the course. For further
