"Clues to Community from the Past"
Dr. Marc Lovelace, Professor of History
Deans' Meeting, President's Office
Dr. William Johnson and Mr. Gary Libby of the English Department were invited to attend the
Southeastern Medieval Association meeting in Tallahassee, Florida on March 5-7. Dr. Johnson
read his paper entitled "Pushing and Shoving in Beowulf." Mr. Libby read his paper entitled
"A Response to Mythopoeses and the Dream Causation Topos."
The following persons were elected March 5, 1976 to represent the Humanities Division in
the capacity indicated:
Dr. Bradford Crain - Secretary to the Division, 1976-77 (1 year term)
Dr. Edward Settgast - Representative to the Curriculum Committee, 1976-77 (1 year term)
Dr. Rob Brady - Representative to the Curriculum Committee, 1976-78 (2 year term)
Dr. Carter Colwell - Representative to the Faculty Senate, 1976-79 (3 year term)

The following persons represent the Humanities Division offices that did not expire this
year: Mr. Gary Libby - Representative to the Honors Council, 1975-1977.
Dr. Jesse Berry - Representative to the Faculty Senate, 1975-1977.
Dr. Eliane Norman has an article "An Analysis of the Vegetation at Turtle Mound" appearing in
the current issue of Florida Scientist published by the Florida Academy of Sciences.

The members of the women's tennis team were absent from classes on March 11th to play Valencia
Community College and on March 15th to play Florida Southern College. The members are: Mandy
Parson, Deborah Fowler, Jill Jinks, Cathy Coffee, Sally Sellner, Deborah Horton, Tracy Barna and
Meg Butler.
The following students were absent from classes on Friday, March 5th due to the fact that they
accompanied Dr. Kindred on a field trip to Sunland Training Center in Gainesville: Lillian
Garcia, Elinor Duke, Rosemary Dunlop and Ellen Tyson.
The following students attended a Debate or Forensics Tournament over the weekend at Morehouse
College in Atlanta. They were absent from classes on Thursday and Friday, March 11 & 12.
Joel Plough, Bobbi Rowe, Kim Swoyer, Marian Dickens, John Estock, Amy Horton, Carol Crooke,
David Gilbert and Ireen Ziegler.
