ANNOUNCEMENTS
DIVERSITY & CULTURAL COMPETENCY WORKSHOP. The University Faculty and Faculty Senate have
acknowledged the importance of inclusiveness and tolerance in our academic community. As part of our
commitment to issues of Diversity, the Faculty Senate encourages all faculty to consider participating in the
"Diversity and Cultural Competency Workshop" on Thursday, December 8th, 9AM-4PM in the Faculty Lounge.
The workshop will be conducted by two consultants from Educational Diversity Services, Inc., who customize
the workshop to our specific community needs. The workshop will provide faculty with a foundation to
understand the impact of diversity in education, the competency skills to increase personal effectiveness, and
the tools to manage difficult dialogues on diversity. By exploring the five characteristics of effective
multicultural communications and the four dimensions of diversity, faculty will enhance their understanding of
inclusion.
The Fall semester workshop is limited to 25 participants. You may reserve a spot in the workshop by emailing
Shirley Ferguson ([email protected]). Please make your reservation as soon as possible but no later than
Friday, 12/2. Lunch will be provided.
This workshop is sponsored by the Faculty Senate and is one component of the Senate Diversity Initiative,
complete Senate Diversity Initiative document is located on the Senate Blackboard site.
